Hauz Khas, Delhi, India (June 2013)
Hauz Khas ("royal tank") complex in Delhi "houses a water tank, an Islamic seminary, a mosque, a tomb and pavilions built around an urbanized village with medieval history traced to the 13th century of Delhi Sultanate reign." This is now an upmarket part of the city and the "village" area is very gentrified with Italian restaurants, bagel shops, bakeries, bars, and art studios adjoining the 800-year-old remains of a university, a lake, and a deer park — a wonderful oasis in the middle of a bustling city.
